Do More with Facebook
I didn't really know what to do with my Facebook fan page when I first started one a few months ago. With some innovation and lots of advice from other fan page users, I've come up with this list. Please feel free to add suggestions, too!
1. Periodically offer deals and specials for your fans. For instance, this week I had a special discount for my fans that is good through today, and they can only find the promo code on my fan page.

2. Upload photos of your items and your work, and perhaps separate photo albums into the product categories that you have in your shop.

3. Periodically update your photo albums - it will show up in your page's newsfeed. When you add photos, you also have the option to add a caption - the name of your item and a link to it may help bring in traffic to your online shop.

4. Have you been featured in someone else's blog or another website? Post the feature in your page's newsfeed and share it!

5. Have you just updated your blog? Post it in your page's newsfeed, too!

6. Are you trying to get the word out about a sale in your shop or a giveaway on your blog? Post a note or an announcement for your fans to see.

7. You can also post sales and giveaways as events for your page, and invite your fans to "attend".

8. You can also use your page's "Notes" feature as a blog in itself!

9. Use your page as a hub for all of the places that people can find you online. You can post links to your Twitter, Flickr, Myspace, Squidoo, blog, Etsy shop, your own website, indiepublic, etc. right in your info section of your page. I put mine in the company overview section.

10. Keep a list of your media features and press in your info, too!

11. Write a little bit about yourself, too. It lets people get to know the artist behind the shop and reminds people there is a person behind your business!

12. Do you use Twitter? Use some of your Tweets in the Facebook Newsfeed. You can do this manually, or set it up to share them automatically (tutorial coming soon).

13. *New Tip* Place a badge for your Facebook page on your blog:

- Go to your Facebook Business Page
-Click Edit Page

-Under "Communication" on the right-side menu, click Promotion Guidelines

-Scroll down to download the badge

-On Blogger: I went to customize my blog, added the badge as a picture and linked it to my page. That easy!
Any other ideas? Please feel free to comment here with ideas you have for using a Facebook Business page.
If you already have a page, post it here. Become a fan of each other's pages. You can also make someone else's fan page a favorite of your own page - right under their profile photo.

Great info! Lots of good ideas here. Do you have any suggestions for getting more fans? I need to reach more than just my Facebook friends.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Kellybot/42811737296
Kellybot - the way I've been getting fans is including my Facebook fan page URL in my shop's announcement, and including the link anytime people call for facebook fan page links in the forums. Maybe Twittering about it would help, or printing it on the back of business cards.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone else has more ideas on this, please post here!
Sooo helpful! THANKS!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips!

Thank you Candace! I appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteThese are GREAT suggestions.
ReplyDeleteKellybot - when I first started my page I clicked the "suggest to finds" link (under profile pix) and sent my page to all of my friends on my personal page. Once they accept it, it shows up in their Newsfeed. Then hopefully others will see it and join as well.
I also use the "Update Fans" link to inform my Fans of whatever I have going on with the shop. It shows up as a Notification and Update on their Profile so they have a better chance of seeing it verses a Newsfeed that might not stay on the home page.
Hope this helps and good luck.

ReplyDeleteGreat post! I tweeted about this and am now going to read it and do some of these things ! :) been trying to use my fb page more
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! I'm already doing some of them, but not all. I especially like the idea of running promos just for my facebook fans!
ReplyDeleteLots of great info - thanks so much! Here's the link to my page if anyone is interested.. http://www.facebook.com/pages/KC-Wilkerson-Fine-Art-Photography/101903984679?ref=ts
ReplyDeleteThis is GREAT advice!
ReplyDeleteAnother good idea I don't think was mentioned:
Create a URL forwarder that points to your facebook fanpage. This way you can place it on print materials and such. Also, you would be able to change it down if you choose to do so.
instead of:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/yourpagename
you would have:
http://yourURL.com
Great advice about adding the "find us on facebook" image with a link to our fanpage. Thank you so much. It seems like a simple process but I would not have come up with that one on my own. Fantastic blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tips, especially the last one. Love your creations!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! For some odd reason I made my facebook page a store when I created it, and now I can't add information to my info page. It's so strange. The only thing I'm able to post is my website. I wish it was possible to change this. Does anyone know? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily! I'm glad you found the info useful!
