December Artist of the Month: A Fabulous Fete

White Chevron Stripe Painted Tray
December is such a bright and festive time, so there is really no shop more fitting for December's Artist of the Month than A Fabulous Fete. Full of chic wares for entertaining and decorating, A Fabulous Fete is a resources that is sure to impress.

Lauren of A Fabulous Fete was kind enough to take the time to be interviewed for Indie Pretty Projects - read on to find out what inspires her designs, and her number one tip for other artists and indie shop owners:

Tell us a little about what you make and your philosophy or vision.

At a fabulous fĂȘte I make unique party supplies that are all customizable to your special occasion. I enjoy entertaining and always love to add my "touch" to each event. I wanted to extend these items to an audience that was looking for the same thing I was. I love hearing what my customers are going to use one of my pieces for and try to make their interaction with me personal. Each piece is one of a kind and I want them to know their event is always on my mind during the production process. Events are special, and I want my shop and service to make it easy for them to create a beautiful one.

How long have you been making your items, and when did you decide to start selling them?

I really started to get into making party supplies about 3 years ago when I met my boyfriend. His friends became mine and vice versa.it was then that I had a large group of people I loved being with that I realized my complete obsession with entertaining. Me making supplies was part budget and part that the things you find at big box party stores are just plain cheesy, boring, and not reusable. When I started making these things, people were asking me why I didn't do this for others... As a job. So, I started my etsy shop with hopes to expand and make designing events my full time gig. This was only a little over a year ago, I've loved every second of it and can't wait for what is coming in the future.

When you are not creating, what do you like to do with your time?

Relaxing with my family. I have a full time day job, so honestly, majority of my free time is spent on a fabulous fĂȘte. I don't mind, when you love what you do it doesn't feel like "work". I always make time for family. My boyfriend and I both work hard at our day jobs, and both on side projects. So when we get some free time, we always head down to our fave spots down by the beach. We also enjoy spending time at home with our pups... Taking them on walks, playing ball, etc. They're like our "children" :)

What is your number one tip to anyone who has just started selling their craft online?

I know everyone says this, but BE PATIENT! I've been selling for a little over a year. It took months for sales to pick up, and sometimes you'll go for days, even weeks without one. Don't give up. Use that down time to improve what you have and develop new products. It takes time. I'm still learning that. And if I can add one more? NETWORK! Don't be shy. I am and it's taken until now for me to really start talking to people about my product. It's so worth it! In the past 2 months so many doors have opened for me, just by getting to know some amazing ladies through blogs and Etsy. You've got nothing to lose.

Where do you see yourself and your business in five years?

I still want to be selling on Etsy. I also want to be in retail shops and hopefully be running my own company as an event designer.

What is your favorite creation of yours?

Well I love everything because otherwise I wouldn't sell it :) but if I have to pick one thing... My trays. I'm working on a new pattern to list soon that I am absolutely in love with!

Who is your favorite artist or Etsy shop?
I'm obsessed with Kiki La Ru. She came up with an amazing and unique idea. Her fabric combos are perfect, and her styling is fantastic. Just love that shop!
