Custom Shelf Monogram for under $5

I was so excited to find this metal letter P on clearance at Meijer for $2.50. I had been wanting a monogram of our last initial somewhere in the house, and this was perfect. I do also have a smaller one in our bedroom I will be making over, but nobody ever sees that one but us.
I really wanted this P in the living room, specifically on the shelves that I painted gray and white - the problem was the black metal of the P made it disappear into the shelf, so I decided to spray paint it (I love spray painting things now :).
So, $2.50 for the P, plus a small can of glossy white spray paint for $3.97, plus 40% off of the paint at Hobby Lobby, put this DIY project at under $5.00! For new homeowners, this is just the kind of project we need to keep doing more of to personalize our house.
Remember to:
- lay down newspaper or ads to protect the floor
- wear gloves and even a mask if you can when spray painting
- hold your can far enough away so you don't get globs of painting forming (like mine have!)
Can't find a good deal on a monogram? Most craft stores have these card board letters for $2 - $3 (top photo). You can buy a small can of metallic paint (like mine) in gold or silver, and create a much more expensive monogram!

So simple but it doesn't look crafty... It looks so chic. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I had some issues with the paint in the metal mesh, but I'm not looking for perfection :)
